Vivid Optimism, 2023
Vivid Optimism
The inspiration for this painting comes from my garden and the incredible display of vivid colour that came from the Zinnia flowers that I grew in pots around the garden. They created so much life and joy and would bring the butterflies into the garden. I was inspired by the effect the sunshine would have on highlighting the variety of colourful blooms through the day. As the light changed, the colours would change.
I used layers of acrylic paint and broad brushstrokes to capture the movement of the flowers. The way these feelings of joy ooze into the linen is delightful. I worked outside for part of the painting and would bring it inside to keep working on the layers in the studio.
